The discipline concerned with such quantification of biological microscopy images is called bioimage analysis. Dr. Christian Tischer walks us through the main concepts of a typical bioimage analysis workflow. He explains how to quantitatively interpret the content of microscopy images and how to automatically detect objects in images and derive object based measurements. He also emphasizes the importance of visual inspection and quality control of automated image analysis. Finally, he presents an overview of current bioimage analysis tools and communities.

Christian Tischer studied physics in Heidelberg, followed by Ph.D. at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) with Dr. Philippe Bastiaens working on microscope development and signalling in mammalian cells. Thank you Christian Tische! That was a great briefing of the image analysis process. I have a question about the Results Exploration and Quality Control slide – What are the Softwares that can be used to achieve that mapping of data to the cell directly? Can you state if CellProfiler Analyst does that? It would be helpful.
