Jodi Nunnari received her BA from the College of Wooster and her PhD from Vanderbilt University. She began her studies of mitochondria as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of California, San Francisco in the lab of Peter Walter. Nunnari is currently a Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Davis where her lab studies the complex architecture of mitochondria and the regulation of mitochondrial behavior in cells and organisms. Nunnari’s pioneering research was recognized by election to the National Academy of Sciences in 2017.
As well as running a successful research lab, Nunnari is very involved in the cell biology community. She has been editor-in-chief of the Journal of Cell Biology since 2015 and is the 2018 president-elect of the American Society for Cell Biology.
