Eric Kandel, M.D., is the Fred Kavli Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Columbia University, and a Senior Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He is also Director of the Kavli Institute for Brain Science and Co-Director of the Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute. Dr. Kandel has been at Columbia University since 1974. Dr. Kandel studies the physiology and molecular mechanisms of memory storage in neurons. For his scientific contributions, Kandel has received numerous awards including the Lasker Award, the Gairdner Award, the National Medal of Science and the Nobel Prize.
