As a biologist and a Cherokee, David Burgess recognizes the urgent need to increase the number of individuals from underrepresented backgrounds in science. He is a past president of the Society for the Advancement of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS), a member of the American Society for Cell Biology’s (ASCB) Minority Affairs and Public Policy Committees, a former ASCB Council member and a recipient of the E.E. Just Award from ASCB. Burgess is a Professor of Cell Biology at Boston College and is the lead principal investigator for the National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN).
