Talk Overview
Dr. Haile Debas discusses efforts to rebuild science education in African universities. In the past half-century, Africa’s once great universities have become crowded and are crumbling. Science classes are overflowing and laboratories are decrepit. Debas proposes forming an alliance between post-docs and scientists from the USA and faculty from African universities to improve basic science teaching and develop research capacity.

Haile Debas
Dr. Debas is the Director of the UC Global Health Institute and the Senior Global Health Advisor at UCSF. He was the founding Executive Director of UCSF Global Health Sciences which was established in 2003. Prior to that, he held several positions at UCSF including Chancellor and Dean of the School of Medicine. Continue Reading
