In 2003, Dr. Varmus co-founded the Public Library of Science (PLoS), an open access forum for publishing scientific papers in biology or medicine. Varmus explains why he believes that the 350 year old print model for scientific publishing needs to change and how the Internet could be used more effectively, and with greater impact, to disseminate scientific discoveries.
